Originally broadcast as part of the BBC's 'Play for Today' series in 1979, this gritty tale of life in depressed Greenock has since been hailed as a cult classic. Jake (Frankie Miller) lives in the shadow of his dying grandfather (Hector Nicol), who was once the town's toughest hard man. Despite their hatred of each other, Jake's sole aim is to be as tough as the old man was. One day Jake's life of drifting, drinking and fighting, leads to a bleak realisation.
